These 5 Style Mistakes Are Making Your Outfit Look Cheap

Let's be real. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to look put-together, but sometimes, it’s the small things that can totally ruin an outfit. I’ve definitely been guilty of some of these without even realizing it. The good news? Once you spot them, they’re super easy to fix. Let’s talk about five common fashion mistakes  that might be cheapening your look, and how to upgrade them instantly.

1. Zippers with Giant Circle Pulls

You know the ones. Those circular zipper pulls that were on sweaters, pants and were seen everywhere during the fast fashion boom. While they might’ve felt fun at the time, they haven’t aged well. Now, they tend to make a piece look cheap and too "trendy" in a bad way. Instead of elevating your outfit, they draw unnecessary attention and give off “mass-produced” vibes. Even if the rest of your outfit is styled perfectly, this one detail can throw off the whole look and make it feel low quality.

2. Wearing Wrinkled Clothes

Even the nicest outfit can look cheap if it is full of wrinkles. It doesn't matter how expensive your clothing is. If they look like they've been sitting at the bottom of your laundry basket for a week, it ruins the whole look. And yes, some fabrics wrinkle much easier than others (we see you, linen), but there’s a big difference between soft creases and full-on fabric chaos.

It's worth it to just buy that steamer. It will save your outfits over and over again.

3. Showing Too Much Skin

There’s nothing wrong with showing a little skin! Confidence is always in style. But when everything is cropped, short, low-cut, and tight in the same outfit, it can start to look more cheap than intentional. It’s not about covering up. It’s about creating balance so you look like you actually know how to style an outfit.

If you're going with a crop top, try pairing it with flowy pants or a longer skirt. If you're wearing a mini skirt, try wearing a top with a higher neckline. Choosing one area to highlight helps keep the outfit from feeling like too much all at once.

4. Too Many Logos

Wearing logos isn’t automatically a bad thing, but when your outfit is covered in them from head to toe, it can start to feel a little overdone. If you are wearing multiple clothing pieces with massive logos on each of them, it will make your outfit feel like a walking billboard. At the end of the day, people will think you are trying to "show off" the brands you buy from.

A better move is to keep things more subtle. Let one logo or statement piece be the focus, and keep the rest of your look clean and minimal.

5. Faux Leather that is Falling Apart

Faux leather can totally elevate a look. Until it starts peeling. You know that cracked, flaky texture that shows up after a few wears? Once that happens, it instantly makes your outfit feel worn out, no matter how cute the rest of it is. It’s one of those things that’s hard to ignore, especially on jackets, bags, or boots that are front and center.

I’ve definitely held onto pieces longer than I should have, just because I loved the style. But the second the material starts falling apart, it takes away from your whole vibe. Sometimes it’s better to let it go and replace it with something in better shape. If you still love the look, try finding a higher quality faux leather or even consider investing in real leather if that fits your budget. It’ll last way longer and keep your outfits looking way more put-together.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, it’s not about wearing designer or following every trend. It’s the little details that make the biggest difference. A few small tweaks, and your look goes from thrown-together to effortlessly elevated.
